Why We Do This Work
For more than four decades, Rich and Sandy Malone have lived inside the rhythms of ministry life. They have known the deep joy of serving alongside God’s people, and they have also seen firsthand the quiet cost it can carry for a marriage and a soul.
After years in pastoral student ministry and nearly three decades leading Lake Forest Ranch, a Christian camp ministry, they sensed God inviting them into something new: a focused, unhurried space where exhausted and wounded followers of Jesus could come and find real care. That invitation became Immanuel Care.
The name is intentional. Immanuel means God with us. Everything that happens in our care is grounded in that truth: that Jesus is present, that He sees, and that His nearness is the very thing that changes people. Our role is simply to help couples encounter that presence in the middle of their pain.
Sandy Malone
MA, NCC, LPC – Co-Director | Pastoral Counselor
Sandy brings decades of ministry experience and deep clinical formation to her pastoral care for couples. She holds a master’s in professional counseling from Liberty University and holds the credentials of a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Nationally Certified Counselor. That training has profoundly shaped how she listens, understands people, and accompanies them through pain.
At Immanuel Care, Sandy’s work is pastoral. She draws on an attachment-based understanding of how people are formed and wounded and integrates approaches such as the Immanuel Approach, a prayer-based method that helps people encounter the presence of Jesus amid painful memories and emotional wounds. Faith is not an add-on to Sandy’s work. It is the foundation from which everything else flows.
Sandy spent years at local Christian counseling centers before co-founding Immanuel Care with Rich. She brings 40 years of ministry experience and clinical training, giving her a deep understanding of the unique pressures, grief, and hidden struggles that ministry couples carry, a perspective few pastoral caregivers possess.
She is passionate about helping couples move from survival mode to genuine renewal, and she believes that healing is not only possible but also part of God’s ongoing invitation to His people.
Rich Malone

Rich Malone is an ordained minister who has spent his entire adult life in pastoral care and ministry leadership. He holds a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and served on a church staff before he and Sandy began their work in camp ministry.
For nearly 28 years, Rich served as Executive Director of Lake Forest Ranch, where he recruited, trained, and shepherded hundreds of staff members and ministry leaders. Alongside those leadership responsibilities, he spent countless hours in pastoral counseling with individuals and couples navigating the full range of joys and hardships in ministry life.
Rich brings a pastor’s ear and a compassionate heart to every session. He is deeply acquainted with grief, complexity, and the long arc of restoration. His presence throughout the intensive process is anchoring, steady, and deeply pastoral.
Rich and Sandy’s work together is not theoretical. It is rooted in decades of shared ministry, a strong marriage, personal healing, and the kind of faith that has been tested and held. They know what it means to walk through hard seasons and to find, in the middle of them, that God is genuinely present and genuinely good. That is not a message they have borrowed. It is one they have lived.
Their deepest conviction is that those who give their lives to serving others deserve to be cared for with the same tenderness and faithfulness they extend to everyone else.
